The Typo Top is a light, summery knit inspired by the art of typography. It offers six easy but striking stripe patterns created with simple knits, purls and slipped stitches only. Especially in the colour combination “black on white”, they are reminiscent of a collection of different fonts you choose from when typing a text. Let your creativity flow and decide whether you would like to knit them all or prefer to pick one or two and repeat or alternate them. This pattern is a perfect opportunity to experiment with colour and texture and to showcase tiny leftovers of your favourite yarns.
Starting with a provisional cast-on, the four halves of the straps are knitted flat separately. To join the right and left panel for the back and front, you cast on new stitches for the neck. You continue to work flat until you reach the armhole, then join front and back to knit in the round while casting on new stitches for the underarm. Since the stripes are simple knit/purl and slipped stitch patterns, you only ever work with one colour per round. The body length is completely customizable.
For a neat finish, you work an I-cord bind-off for the hem and add applied I-cords around the neckline and armholes. Have fun creating your piece of typography!
